Each rectal suppository contains 10 mg bisacodyl
- Bisacodyl is contraindicated in patients with intestinal obstruction and acute abdominal disease, including appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel disease, and severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting, which may be indicative of the above-mentioned severe conditions.
- Bisacodyl is also contraindicated in cases of severe dehydration and in patients with known hypersensitivity to bisacodyl or any other component of the product.
- Bisacodyl suppositories should not be used in the presence of anal fissures or ulcerative proctitis with mucosal damage
- Concomitant use of diuretics or adrenergic corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance if excessive doses of bisacodyl are taken.
- Electrolyte imbalance may increase sensitivity to cardiac glycosides.
- Bisacodyl is a stimulant laxative used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation.
Dosage:
- Short-term relief of occasional constipation:
Adults and children over 12 years: 1 suppository (10 mg) for immediate effect.
Children and adolescents under 12 years of age: It should not be used in children and adolescents under 12 years of age.
- The use of suppositories can sometimes cause irritation of the rectum, and repeated use can lead to inflammation of the rectum or crusting of the epithelium. Prolonged use can lead to diarrhea with excessive loss of water and electrolytes, especially potassium.
- The most important side effects: abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea, abdominal cramps, hypersensitivity or rarely anaphylactic reactions.
